Last week, I was lucky enough to be in Italy, near enough to Lake Garda to attend the WCM alongside UK J24 Class Chairman, David Cooper.
Garda will be the most fantastic venue for the 2018 World Championships, 24th – 31st August. Our Italian hosts gave us a tour of impressive facilities at Fraglia Vela Riva and with their vast experience of hosting large fleets we can be assured of a great event, both on and off the water.
Pietro Diamanti, along with his Worlds Team, are putting together the final details of the event and also the accommodation, with which they have arranged discounts for competitors. They said that there are both local hotels and camping facilities available.
They have a generous main sponsor, Alce Nero, who gave all of the attendees of the WCM a bag of fantastic local produce. Alce Nero are a brand of more than a thousand organic farmers, beekeepers and processors who have, since the 1970s, striven both within Italy and farther afield to produce delicious, healthy, and nourishing food that comes from agriculture that respects the land.
2018 should be a fantastic year for the J24 fleet, Thorsten Sperl, who has taken over from Jan-Marc Ulrich on the J24 German fleet, was enthusiastic about the ever popular Kieler Woche Week 2018 and are hosts for the J24 Europeans, 23 – 28th July, Flensburger Segel Club, Glücksburg, Germany, ahead of the World Championships in Garda.
Here’s a timelapse of the view you can expect.
